Hi there, new to this forum and was hoping someone would be able to help me out.

Recently purchased a 1998 Jimny 1.3 hard top with the G13B engine. The engine was knocking, so got another from a breaker. I fitted it and its running fine. However there is a real distinct lack of power below 2000 rpm.

Having looked over the net i have changed and tried just about everything i could find or read about. So far i have run the engine without the cat, swapped out the map sensor, throttle body and all other electrical sensors located towards the top of the engine. Swapped fuel lines and air lines about. The only thin i haven't changed is the injectors, fuel rail and the exhaust manifold. I doubt it was these as the engine is running too well. The engine is timed up correctly as it starts on the button. However i think there isn't enough spark. Having got hold of the Suzuki workshop manual, I discovered there is an ignition resistor behind the glove box which determines the spark angle.

It also says that there should be a little white sticker on the front of the cam-belt cover which defines which resistor should be fitted to that specific engine. Unfortunately my sticker is missing on the breaker engine I bought. From my research there seems to be 12 different resistors,
1 = -5 deg
2 = -4 deg
3= -3 deg
4 = -2 deg
5 = -1 deg
X = 0 deg
6 = 1 deg
7 = 2 deg
8 = 3 deg
9 = 4 deg
10 = 5 deg
11 = 6 deg

So far I have tried 4, 5 and X, none have helped, which makes me think the it must be one of the others, Rang my local main agent this morning to order a selection of others to see if this helps, and they only refer to the resistors by the Ohm rating not the values or spark angle defined in their own workshop manual!! The choices are 82, 160, 270, 430, 680, 1.0k, 1.5k, 2,2k, 3.6k, 6.3k and 12k Ohm.

I cant find which resistance applies to which value! Can anyone help me, or suggest anything else I should try.

Thanks in advance, maybe someone on hear has had the same problem!

Cheers

Will

I thought the the resistance/angle table was in the FSM but it may be on the parts database, I will look later.
In any case have you checked the timing with a strobe? you must fix the timing using a jumper in the diagnostic socket when you do this. The G13B Jimny doesn't have a lot of low down power but if its that bad then check the compression, that will give you an idea of wat shape the engine is in.

Thanks, Rhinoman, i sell these Jimny's and have driven hundreds, its just noticeable the lack of guts when in first or second gear. Will run compression check, going to check the timing with a gun this afternoon. Cheers
