Remove the lever, then use a large screwdriver or similar to realign the shifter rods before replacing the parts.

there is a slot in the shift rods that the shift lever uses to engage the rod. If all the slots on the shift levers are lined up then it's in neutral. The clutch doesn't have to be pushed in, but it helps.

just to make it clear before i pull the lever, its in 3rd gear, in the transmission as well i believe, if i drive the truck right now it wont come out of 3rd i think because the shift lever is stuck. i can pull the lever while in gear? i have read to put it in neutral before pulling shift lever but no can. thanks for all the help.

You can pull the lever when its in third, they recommend having in neutral to avoid getting the lever misaligned.

so pulled the lever and found no shifter bushing! where did it go? directions werent clear, but to be sure, the shifter bushing goes on top of the ball of the shift lever (nearest shift knob) and the flat part of the shifter bushing faces up toward knob, concave part facing down resting on ball yeah? thanks for all your help so helpful, think i got lucky on realigning shift levers into neutral cuz i had no idea what i was doing.
