So what exactly is so bad about the stock carb on the 1.3?
I ask because I just did a tune up on mine, (rotor/cap/plugs/oil) had mine emission tested when I bought it. It passed with SCREAMING colors.

Now just a mere month later, when I start it, the thing runs horribly rough until it has run for a few minutes. I've noticed that I smell gas when I get in for the first time each day. Also my economy has gone to hell in a hand basket. Now I'm getting at best 19. Almost like it's just dumping or leaking gas into the intake manifold after shut off.

Granted I have the CV carb, and now I'm saving for the my side 2...but it's going to be a while. But I'm just curious.

I had the exact same symptoms for a short while. Turned out to be the choke (which I forced open with a wire due to it not working anymore like 99% of the Samurai's) plate that closed. Not sure why but the engine starts up much easier without the choke than with it.

If you have not done this already, fix the choke in the permanent open position and report back.

So I went out and took a peek at the carb. While playing with the choke plate, I realized that the hose connecting the choke piston to the delay valve was split and obviously bleeding out. So I just replaced that hose, as well as the one below the valve to the carb body. Totally did the job!

Good call on the choke issue.

BUT! I discovered that there is one hose that connects from the bottom back side of the carb bonnet that isn't attached to anything. I couldn't find where it is supposed to (if required) attach to. Been searching through my Chiltons with no results either. See here, looking from the drivers side front fender point of view, the hose sticks in the air (for sake of pointing it out.)

Is it just a bleed off hose?

Yea, that's what it was. I couldn't see that little nipple in broad day light. But just now with the flashlight I barely saw it.

The stock carb is a complicated almost Rube Goldberg affair. When it is in good tune and everything is working, it is a great carb, almost fuel injection quality, but there is just so much to go wrong with it.

What do you define as "CV" carb? For most of us the acronym means constant vacuum and describes a carburetor similar to that used in the MY SIDE kits - which I believe is a Keihin, other examples would be an SU or a Stromberg CD (Constant Depression)

The main reason I ask is this - Suzuki never used a CV carb on the 1.3 - depending on the market it could have been an electronic feedback Hitachi or one of several different Aisins.

If you have a CV carb fitted it's not stock.

No, I was saying that I have purchased a Harley CV carb to use with the my side 2 set up. I'm still running completely factory for right now until I save up the coin for the kit.

I purchased a 2004 Dyna carb...

I love the My Side 2. I have had it on for a year now and it works soooo much better than the stock setup.
