The AC compressor on my 2000 Esteem started erratically squeaking a couple weeks back. It comes and goes, sometimes in the morning, sometimes when warm.. point is it's not consistent. If I spray WD40 on the bearing area, the noise goes away for a min or two but comes right back.

I took a closer look the compressor and it looks like the center allen head bolt is partway out.. I tried to tighten it back in but it just spins. I'm guessing not normal.

Does anybody have a picture of what it SHOULD look like? If it's hooped, I assume I have to replace it. The AC doesn't work anyway so could I just remove it altogether and run a shorter belt?

It's 14yrs old. Do a quick math for a full air cond replacement. If it's worth it to you go for it.Or just turn your music louder. Happens to me on starts once warm goes away. You can pull the unit, good luck finding the belt.
Antidote. It isn't broken, why fix it?;)
