This is how my drive shaft looks like now:


Is that OK? Will it hurt the drive shaft or cause any vibrations?

That angle (in the picture) needs to match the angle of the yoke at the other end (at the transfer case). The two angles need to be equal. If the angle at the transfer case is not as great, then you need shims between the perches and the spring packs. This will tilt the diff a little and lessen the angle pictured and even out the balance.

Thanks Bill. Logically they should have the same angle, since the transfer case and the diffs are parallel to each other. Any way, my transfer case now is out of the car, working on the installation of the 6.5:1 gears.

Now is the perfect time to drop in the twin sticks!
To make them work you have to remove a detent ball, and you already have the case apart. Perfect timing!

What is the benefit of that? Is it only to switch to low range on 2WD mode? That would complicate the controls.

What extra hardware does it require?

Missed this last night, sorry. Actually, the transfer case sits at a small angle. It is lower at the front. Best to measure the angles once you get it back into the vehicle. Also, if you bolt the front driveshaft spacer to the transfer case instead of the pinion you will get a little more clearance going over the transmission crossmember. It is a close fit. The spacer pushes the yoke farther out before making the angle down to the pinion.

It actually makes the shifting easier. The left shifter controls the 2wd/4wd. The right shifter has 3 positions, low/neutral/high. Each is independant of the other and can be used in any combination. It actually makes it easier to shift.

An additional benefit is that you will have a true neutral. In the stock shift pattern, neutral leaves the forks in 4wd. This leaves the front and rear drive shafts locked together and only disengages the transmission from the main tcase shaft. The true neutral disengages everything. Better for towing if you flat tow.

I installed them back when they were first released, so I had to source a shifter boot for inside the cab, but you may be able to get them now with the kit. Ask Scott when you order. I explained how to install it in the article.

That's very interesting. Where can I buy the kit? It will add a big overhead in my budget and time, I probably will pass this one.
