damn, looks like you got a good tidy one, one lady owner, driven only on sundays, well done.

Do the basics, fluid changes etc (yes, get the auto fluid changed too, and use the right stuff) as well as a full brake flush thru with fresh fluid as you don't know how wet the old stuff has gotten over the years.

The auto kickdowns on those 3 bangers can be a bit savage, but they do make a nice growl out the exhaust when they do drop down a cog.

The little car that could.

I owned a 5 door Swift for many years - a 93, with the "big block" 1.3 four cylinder - that car did yeoman service hauling parts, tools & techs around in my computer field service business.
I must have the monster version then, mines a gigantic 1.5, so much fun round town.

Well, yes I agree m8

I can't find a stockist (UK side) with a FelPro gasket.... so I will go 'shade tree' DIY and drill through two planks of wood [with heavy fibrous gasket sandwiched between] to create the correct size holes - at the correct dimensions - and trim the profile.

Cost me pennies = Job Jobbed

as long as its not an asbestos gasket

Measured the dia. of my '98 Swift steering wheel.... 14 3/4".
Or.... 375MM.

Thats quite a hoop!! Some PAS cars, of course, get by with less 🤔.

I'm thinking of changing it for something leather bound but the size needs to be no smaller.... I have found some really nice ones (obvs from part-outs) and some could be easily adapted with a 'dummy shell/horn pooper' to fill the missing AirBag centre.

Will report back 🔧

check your insurance and MOT regulations, you will be removing an airbag, and the drivers side one at that.

I am exploring possibility of up-speccing my Factory Discs (231mm) by fitting Ignis discs (257mm).

The whole idea is formulated around buying absolutely no 'trick/expensive' parts.... Just two new discs!!

I will document all the work involved/lots of photos... Not for a few months (I have no garage and it is winter here in UK)

Watch This Space

Do you actually have a braking issue at present or are just looking at an upgrade?

As Fordem says, messing with brakes is one way of getting into trouble quickly. Braje balancing could also be an issue if you start changing calipers etc.
Personally I'd look at upgrading the lines to braided stainless, and a complete system flush and bleed with new fluid. Given its age, maybe inspect the calipers and the slide pins, and replace or recondition
as required.

Lots of small maintenance tasks done properly will accumulate into a noticeable improvement.

In my experience changing pad material composition can make a huge improvement as well. So called "race pads" certainly work, but only when warmed to above a certain temperature with is nearly impossible on the street.

As a general rule of thumb, softer pads will brake harder and faster, but fade with heat quickly, and hard ones won't work until up to temperature

Carbon brakes do nothing fir the first few seconds and many sports car drivers have found this out, hard stomp, release then apply and they work. One initial hard press and they do nothing.

Given this is just musings at this stage, see what pad materials are available for your vehicle and you might find thats a major improvement depending on your driving style and usage even different brands can make a big difference

Nothing wrong with the stock discs as long as they are relatively smooth and not warped.

We will see..... However, I notice (across a whole slew of car makers) the oil pressure sensors are either 'flying saucer' disc shape or 'plastic pencil top' shaped. Surely a small/compact size sensor will be less stressful to 'fatigue' a Tee....?

The brass T will fracture with engine vibration, always use a steel one, never brass. Only brass fittings i use are the straight ones to connect the copper line to the t itself.

Also found cheapz N.O.S. Delphi LP676 pads 🙂

That coating works well till things get hot. The centre should stay pretty much ok given the bigger heat sink surface the hub affords, but I bet the disc surface and outer edges look like any other disk in a week or 2.

Ha Ha..... Well, these are quite ancient & scrap. I will have to drill a hole/install vent - to draw PCV into the airbox.

After customisation it will all be enamel painted >>> more excitement when choosing a suitable colour.

Sky blue.. Fire engine red.. Grey or Black.

Dunno 🤔

Purple metallic is always a good choice for bling in an engine bay

Lucky you, can't do that on the GV due to auto dimming interior lights, the leds don't like it, neither does the bcm driver.

With the current bleak weather/rain.... I have had to summon my mojo for this task 😮
Job done yesterday (46,930m) and I also took the opportunity to tweak tension on the newly replaced flat Alt belt.... My charge Volts have been sagging with all acc. on = belt slip! Cranked a bit on the Alt and now much tighter/13.6V restored 👍🍾
Given the filthy weather & greasy muck off the roads.... I refilled my washer bottle with MaxMix + water.

OPM
I use this stuff, if you can get it there give it a go. Its goid stuff for cutting road grime off the screen.

Treats about 2.5 to 3 litres, so one small 32ml bottle to a washer tank full
