I think the supercharger is prefered over the turbocharger with the SJ413. If you run it on the stock engine you don't wan't to go past a low pressure boost (3-5 psi) That low a boost pressure isn't going to require an intercooler or serious timing or fuel management but it will give you a considerable increase in power. Camden makes a supercharger for the samurai or you can get one out of a junk yard. The aisin superchargers are decent for low boost.
There was a nice small supercharger that was on toyotas... can't remember the model. It had an electric clutch on the pulley so you could have it kick in when the secondary throttle plate oppened up using the same signal from the ECU.

There were a couple of turbo conversions that were available in the UK years ago. They used to blow through a rejetted stock carb, the engine was stock up to around 5psi boost but a timing retard box was fitted.

You could blow through the stock carb, but most people that are putting a turbo in would go with an aftermarket unit that was designed for it. They're a lot easier to re-jet to your specific needs. A multispark timing box is beneficial too. You can recurve the timing on your distributor but again, its a hassel and the MSD box would serve you better.

Running higher than 5psi You should build up the engine for it and you would definitely need an aftermarket carb and electronic ignition management of some kind.
