I was looking for some possible causes of backfiring , i got a 96 sj80 auto choke carb i just put some carbie cleaner on/in it couple days back just starting backfiring today. Wondering if that has anything to do with it or maybe exhaust? any help would be nice
cheers

check and make sure you didn't bump a vacuum line loose when cleaning the carb.
Remove and inspect the spark plugs.

If there is a significant buildup of tannish-gray material on the gap area, clean them. This stuff builds up when you have leaky valve stems, use inferior quality gasoline or you regularly add a fuel additive to your tank.

My '88 started backfiring mildly because of the ash buildup on the plugs. The buildup interefered with providing a strong spark which caused unburned air-fuel mixture to reach the hot exhaust manifold causing a small back fire.

I replaced the plugs and the difference was immediate! No backfires and the engine ran smooth and strong again!
