I did the 1.3 too 1.6 conversion for the sami . the motor is supposed 2 be out of 98 tracker . using the calmini conversion kit >> last year . lets cut 2 it >>. wnt too turn it over and the starter just spun . I replaced starter with new oem and it did the same thing ... ? could I have used the wrong fly wheel ? or put it on backwards ?? the starter is not engauging the teeth on the fly wheel . thanks from gigarange

It is certainly possible! You need to take some critical dimensions, noting the flywheel tooth location (depth from starter flange mounting point and gear outside diameter spec) and compare it to the starter as located in it's bolted-up position. See if when the pinion gear throws-out, that is is in fact dimensionally correct to engage, in other words.

back again .. called trail tough ? after review of starter and counting teeth on flywheel , and that sinking feeling ,knot in stomach . dollar signs > i loosened starter looking for aprox 15 thou.of inch > and after chambers sat and soaked for a day > and after alot of clicks of starter . engine turned over after sitting for about 6 years in elements.. . If the motor had been out of sidekick automa.there is a knob at crank that may have prevented starter from reaching flywheel and I would have had 2 pull motor . Moving forward >>I think I will have a drink now ...

since I did not know the downer vehicle > I was quite concerned when starters would not mesh with fly wheel 2 turn over 1.6 . installed . Info was that if it was out of an automatic >there was a lobe or knob on the auto . near the crank that could be the problem and it should have been removed before bolting flywheel and assembly . This was not the case i am happy 2 report > I moved the starter some 11 thou.away from motor and tightened . with plugs out and cylinders lub'ed > and many clicks of starter .. the motor finally recanted it's almost seized state and began 2 turn over . prior 2 this > both starters just spun when powered . 2 scarred 2 think of pulling the motor again that I put in last summer . the knob or lobe in crank area from automatic was the real fear .since it could have been easily overlooked and caused the mounting of flywheel assembly 2 be set back too far for starter 2 reach .
