Just picked up an '88 Samurai project vehicle. I was wondering if anyone has come up with a rear seat from another vehicle that would fit the Samurai and accommodate 3 passengers. I plan on putting in 3-point or 5-point harnesses for the kids anyway. Any suggestions would be appreciated, have not come up with much after hours of internet searching.

Thanks,

well i'm not sure if there is anything thats will clip in to the stock mounts. but aslong as it will fit in the back you can pretty much put anything in. you just need the mounts from that seat you are puting in. but 3 wide might be a little cramped. samurais are pretty small.

The stock seat (early model) is probably the best fit you will ever get. For the work you will need to put into fabricating mounts for any other seat, I would use the stock seat and adapt from there. If you are going to put kids in the back for wheeling, I assume you are going to add a safety cage that will cover the back area. You can add a tie bar across the bed behind the seat. This can serve as your mounting point for the harnesses. Here is a cage you might want to consider. The reason I point out this one is because the folks that build them can work with you on your needs and add that bar (and any others) into the kit. They use a computer design program specifically for cages to make sure it will work right.

The company is called Rock 4XFabrication and they know zooks though and though. That particular cage is called the NC-Z series and it has alot of sentimental value thoughout the Zook world. It was first designed by a friend and fellow zook pilot that lost his life in Iraq.

Thanks for the input. A full cage is definitely on the list of additions coming, I was just holding off until I figured out the rear seat so it all works together. I don't mind a little modification or fabrication. I was just wondering if any one has put in a tracker seat or something. I know it will sit a little higher to clear the wheel wells, but my kids are small so I think it might work.

Thanks again,

There were two versions of the Samurai seat... a short version only came a few inches above the edge of the side of the vehicle -

And there was a taller version also -

I have heard of folks trying to modify a track/kick seat to fit but I have never seen it done in person or pictures... Look for a tall seat and it may solve the problem.

I was considering the Rocky-Road.com Sportcage, but I like the Rock 4X Fabrication one better. Thanks. I got hold of a rear seat from the auto wrecker, high back, but it would be nice if it was a little wider. I thought the tracker rear seats were three person seats, I need to go back to the wrecker and look and measure the different rear seats that may fit.
