Just purchased an 87 Samurai with an apparently working AC unit. Engine starts up quickly and idles properly when cold or hot, but really revs up way too fast when the AC unit is turned on. Mine does not have a tach on it, but I'd estimate that the idle speed jumps from 850 to over 2500 RPM when you engage the compressor and stays steady at that very high speed unit I turn the compressor off, then it will drop right back down to 850 RPM.

Any ideas of how to fix or adjust this problem?

Assuming that your Samurai is carburetted, there will be a vacuum operated idle up control - have a look at the carburettor whilst someone else turns the a/c on and off slowly, you'll see a lever that moves - one way with the a/c on, and the other with the a/c off - attached to that lever will be an idle speed screw, you can adjust it there.

This one is fitted with a carburetor, however I can't seem to find that lever. Does anyone have a photograph or diagram that shows this lever and adjusting screw?
