Hi from sunny South Africa!
I've recently joined as I need some info on my Samurai build

Which way does the crank bolt turn to loosen it?
Counter clockwise or Clockwise?

As for the rocker arm shaft securing screws, they seems to be stuck and I've already broken 2 phillips bits trying to loosen them, any advice here?

I am documenting my rebuild on a local forum, I'll post the whole thing in a while.

I have received my new flat top pistons with new rings but the 2nd compression ring seems to have a small step. Something tells me the step should be installed facing up or am I wrong?

Thanks I meant to say facing down.

My engine is back together and did the start up tonight.
Every time the engine has to start up it doesn't take first swing (hot or cold) like it used to so the carb should not be the issue here since it hasn't been touched.
It sputters for 5sec and then idles and revs perfectly. What could cause this problem?

As for the ignition timing. I've set it at 10º BTDC for now. What would the recommended ignition timing be for using the high compression pistons 9.5:1 and 95 octane fuel
