Would someone be so kind an look under there bonnnet please.

My rev counter hasn't been working since i own the samurai santana 1300cc petrol 4 cylinder.

I have read through the posts and there is a wiring diagram for the ignition circuit on the sj413 that shows two leads connected to the distributor. THerefore I think I might have a lead not connected to the distributor from the positive terminal of the coil which might be the problem for my rev counter not working.

Attached is a picture of my setup. and the wires I have.

When considering the wiring diagram for the ignition circuit where does the next lead connect to when it leads the positive terminal of the coil?


On the picture the blue near the distributor is the lead coming from the condensor

Ignition Coil...
Positive Terminal:
The brown/black lead I think goes to the rev counter?
Two x Black/white leads into the harness, one to the ignition.


Negative Terminal: one lead going to the brass stud on the side of the distributor that connects to the breaker points inside of the distributor.

can someone check there setup if they own a 1300cc petrol

My 413 wasn't wired quite like that and the 1300 has no points. Can you let us know what year it is and whether its Japanese or Spanish built (first 3 letters on the VIN)

thanks for your reply.

mine definitely has contact points as I had to replace them about a week ago and it is also a 1300cc engine. 1324cm3 stamped on the lower part of the engine. It is a Spanish one as the vin starts with VSE

Unfortunately I do not know the year. this is something that I am trying to find out also.

Can you remember how it should be wired?

I've never seen points on a sj413 in 20 years of messing with them. I know lots of people with sj410's that have put the sj413 distributor on to be rid of points so I assume if desperate a 410 could fit the 413. It certainly does not look like the standard 413 distributor.
Here's my 413 but I don't think it's going to help.

your black lead and yellow lead that goes to the dizzy. Where do they actually connect to on the distributor?

Would you have a moment to check what they cannot too inside the dizzy? can you take a picture please?

You may have the SJ413-MIL Santana, I've only ever seen this model mentioned on this parts list and never seen one. I see it does indeed have points and a distributor without vacuum advance (one version shown). If it is a MIL I have no idea of any other differences compared to the standard SJ413/Samurai Santana.

that's very interested and I found the sj413-Mil Santana on the site.

How do I know that its a SJ413? as I have not marking on the vehicle to confirm it is.

The only name bagdes I can find on the vehicle are Samurai and Santana, and a badge on the back tailgate to say its a five speed.

All the 1300cc are listed as SJ413 but about 1987 they widened the axles and then also referred to them as Samurai. Santana denoted it was made in Spain. They are also referred to as Sierra and Gypsy depending on country.

I can only say the rev counter will go to the negative terminal, but I don't know what your rev counter wire is.

I got the rev counter working :D they had the wiring wrong, the rev wire was connected to the wrong terminal.

I have hooked it up like the wiring diagram. I now just need to find where the second lead from the coil goes into the distributor?

on the "wiring diagram", it shows two electrical wires coming from the coil, one from the negative terminal and another from the positive.

On my jeep I just have one electrical wire coming from the coil. Therefore I would like to add the other wire from the other terminal on the coil but I need to know where to connect it to when it gets to the distributor?
