Hi All,
New guy here in Mew Mexico with a new to me 98 Sidekick automatic 4dr looking for a rear axle as mine has a load whine. Just picked this little truck up a couple of months ago and loving it so far. 93000 miles and in great shape other then the axle.
Car Part.com gives these options.
Mine is w/o abs Canada market but can I get a Japan market one or one out of a sport?

2 Dr, ABS, AT (4.30 ratio)
2 Dr, ABS, MT (5.13 ratio)
2 Dr, w/o ABS; AT (4.30 ratio)
2 Dr, w/o ABS; MT (5.13 ratio)
4 Dr, 1.6L (5.13 ratio), ABS, Canada market
4 Dr, 1.6L (5.13 ratio), ABS, Japan built
4 Dr, 1.6L (5.13 ratio), w/o ABS; Canada market
4 Dr, 1.6L (5.13 ratio), w/o ABS; Japan built
4 Dr, 1.8L (Sport, 5.13 ratio), ABS
4 Dr, 1.8L (Sport, 5.13 ratio), w/o ABS

Someone with deeper knowledge will be able to give more concrete answers, but I believe that a Japan built unit will work. As far as the 1.8 Sport, I do not believe the axle housing is the same, because I believe they have a wider track, as well as a wider frame, but the actual third member may very well be the same.

what aqua said,
not rocket science to check what you have (best thing to do rather than trust specs) without splitting the diff
put car on jacks, mark with tape the wheels and driveshaft and count the turns to get one wheel revolution.
