Hey guys, I'm new here. Went and looked at an SX4 today and will probably get it, but I've got some questions I'm looking to answer before I take the plunge. Specifically about the radio. I'm looking at the Sport, which has the 6 disc in dash changer, which I'm not really interested in but it's standard with the Sport which has other things I want. What I do want to do however is install XM and an iPod interface. My salesman said the XM tuner from the dealer is $399 and he suggested I go to a radio equipment dealer and get it much cheaper (he said around $150 installed). I've read elsewhere that the radio is made by Clarion, so I'm wondering if this: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-trCWBUnXLDj/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?search=XMDCLA100&i=209XMDCLA1 plus an XM Direct tuner will do. I really don't want to pay $399 for the dealer's tuner, and I don't want to go with an external XM tuner like an Inno because I love everything integrated.

Second, if I get the iPod interface (which is $160 from the dealer, much more palatable) can I use it at the same time as the XM tuner?

And third, is there a cable that I can use to just get an Aux input if I do have to go with an external XM tuner?

Thanks guys, and I hope to be a long time member as soon as I get my SX4 :)

mixduptransistor,

The stock radio will allow you to connect the XM receiver as well as the 125 Clarion iPod adaptor through the CeNet plug. The aftermarket XM adapter at Crutchfields should allow the same (it's been out of stock for a while, you also need the XM receiver to go with it http://www.crutchfield.com/S-EOSrmNRFHlW/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=209XMD1000)

I manufacture an AUX cable that will give you a direct audio input into the deck. It has a 3.5mm male stereo plug that you can connect to any audio device. It does not use the CeNet, so you can have all 3 things connected at once :)

You can e-mail me at [email protected] for more details.

Cheers,

Tim

This aux connection, I would like to connect a amp/subwoofer and a CD/MP3 stacker if possible, I bought a Stinger attachment to connect to the speaker wires to give me two RCA's to use, could the stacker go straight to the aux socket?

Cappy5,

My AUX adapter cable only works on North American model stereo's. It allows you to hook up any MP3 player to the stock stereo.

The Line level to RCA adapters you have are all you need to connect your stereo output to an external amp.

Hi Tim, Just adding to my question, I had a look with torch and mirror in behind glovebox [as another member explained how ] and the australian model has a CeNET connector and beside it looks like a phone or ethernet connection. Could you hazard a guess what it is for?
A Clarion Stacker to hook up to the CeNET costs $170US but over here the lowest I found was $312aus+$18 post, big difference.

cappy5,

What color and shape is it? Can you tell how many pins it has?
Does your stereo play MP3's and have a "CD/AUX" button on the front?

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim, the plug socket is white looking and looks the same as the ethernet or phone plug you see on back of computers. Couldn't see how many pins using mirror and torch. When I pull out the stereo to hook up the line-out to RCA adaptor for the subwoofer I'll take a picture. The stereo does play MP3 disc's but no it doesn't have the CD/AUX button you speak of ,just a CD button.I wondered if when you fit a Car kit mobile phone , this might be used for muting the music during a call. Thanks, cappy5

Cappy5,

The plug sound like it is the same as the North American SX4.
Although you don't have the "CD/AUX" button", I might be able to use the telephone input as an AUX input (assuming it is the same set up as N. America).
You would have to have a toggle switch to flip the "mute" on and off, but it would give you a stereo input..

PM me your e-mail and I will send you the details if you don't mind being a Guinea pig :)

Cheers,

Tim

Radio Questions

Hi Tim, In the Suzuki Forums-Radio Questions I was asking about the plugs on
the back of our Australia Model SX4 Z series, you asked me to forward my
email for some information on the telephone like socket in back of head unit
so I could try something, be your Guinea pig so its [email protected] and my
user name is cappy5 or my name is John which ever you prefer. We both love
the car except my wife loves her music and particularly bass[subwoofer] .
The standard sound is very good even so. Thanks for your time,John,cappy5.

The XM on Suzuki radios uses the Clarion CeNET connector.
GM radios, regardless of who made them do not use this system, so the adaptor will not work :(

Tim,

I sent you a PM. We ordered the radio and interface from crutchfield. Install is very straight forward. However, we have no control using this. We have talked to crutchfield and they are sending 2 new units to try. Their "tech-support" however says these units are not for use with factory units. On the factory unit face it says "clcc04" and the model number is PS-2808k-b. We got the XMD1000 and the XMDCLA100.

Thanks!

Bamagirl,

The XMDCLA100 is designed to work with Clarion's over the counter stereo's not the factory unit. Usually it will just lock the stereo in test mode, but if you can get it to go to channel 1 on XM, it's a start.

You have to leave the stereo on channel 1 for about 30-45 minutes for the XM to activate. After that, you might be able to pull in all of hte channels.

I know a couple of other people on the forum have tried the XMDCLA100 and could not get it to work correctly.

Good luck,

Tim
