The steering system for my suzuki mini-van is rack-end pinion. Recently I had a problem with it. It snapped on me, such that im not able to control the wheels! Good grief I was not mobile (or worse in the middle of a highway!). I had it checked by a mechanic, and was adviced to have it replaced. I learned from my mechanic that theres no "brand-new" rack-end pinions since most of these parts were converted from RHD to LHD. So its just customized here in the Phils.

Im afraid the same thing will happen to me again, and this time im in the middle of the road and most probably will cause an accident! Help anybody about rack-end pinions?

I dont really have much knowledge about this part, i learned it only from a mechanic. In other words, I ddnt really understand most of what his talkin about hehehehe!

Here's an image of a rack and pinion steering i got from howstuffworks.com:

A rack-and-pinion gearset is enclosed in a metal tube, with each end of the rack protruding from the tube. A rod, called a tie rod, connects to each end of the rack. The pinion gear is attached to the steering shaft. When you turn the steering wheel, the gear spins, moving the rack. The tie rod at each end of the rack connects to the steering arm on the spindle.

Hope this helps.

Hey ron,

I recently had the same situation that you mention. Mobile pa ko and its hard to steer my van to the left. I have to review what route kung saan kaunti lang ang gagawin kong left turn. hehehe :)

Anyway, I am not sure of the price but in Araneta Avenue in Olympia auto supply they sell the entire system for 4K at left hand original sya from Korea coz they also manufacture this type of van. For my van, I still bought the right hand and converted it to left hand mga 2.5K ang parts lang wala pa labor. Simple lang ang mechanical system nya kaya don't worry about the it. Pina reinforce ko lang dahil nag wide tires ako ng 175/60S, R13. Depende kung sino ang gumawa at maayos pa nakuha mong piyesa which I am sure marami. Mas complicated ang mga delica, pajero and subic dahil power steering pa ang mga unit nila.

I know some warehouse that sells abundant supply here lalo na pag na timing mo na bagong dating from Japan. I can take you there if you want?

My main priority now broe, is the process of shipping my "precious" from my place to Manila. Still dont know how the entire process works. And then as soon as my precious arrives, il start workin on it na. As of now, my folks are helping me out on the paper stuffs.

Have not actually asked the availability of parts but i'm sure its available. Try asking the store near Gonzaga-Mabini and the one near Gaisano city, going north on the left side. I forgot the names. Both stores specialize in Suzuki brand new and surplus parts.

Right/Left Conversion

In converting between right/left hand drive, one bar has to be cut and rewelded. Ordinarily it should last for years but it *is weaker* depending on how good a job the welder did.

my carry is also experiencing loose swing arm assembly.
kumakalog pag naka apak ako ng bumps or nasa rough road ako...

pina check ko sa mekanik, sabi nya dapat daw lagyan ng bushing yung swing arm connection.

any other solution/workaround for this problem?

need to check also if machine shop rebuilding needed aside from changing bushing... kung tagal na sira ang bushing, kinain na rin ang housing... if you aren't planning to replace new, refurbish instead...
