How can you tell what gearing is in a tcase? I bought a 86 samurai with lots up upgrades but the old owner knew nothing about the tcase. Any help would be great. Thanks

The most accurate way would be to take it out of the car and pull it apart so you can count the ratios.
The easier way is to make marks or paint lines on the input shaft and the drive shafts and count how many turns the input shaft does for each turn on the drive shaft - perhaps pushing the car while it is in neutral (but in LOW 4) and on a flat piece of ground.
If it does 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 turns then you have a standard t/case, if the input shaft turns 4 or 6 times for each turn of the drive shaft then you have a 4.1:1 or 6.?:1 rock lobster / rock crawler t/case.

thanks

Thanks for the info. I was also told to put it up on jack stands and turn the wheels... Thats seems like alittle more work then just pushing it. Thanks again.
