Hello everyone new member here. I just purchased my first tracker and I'm trying to firgure out reason for my poor fuel economy.

Vehicle stats.
2001 2.0 auto 4wd
55k miles .

So far I've changed all oils to synthetic. New air filter, plugs, and cleaned egr valve and stainless pipe. Currently it has a service engine light dtc p0440. Having trouble with that one checked all vacuum lines can't find any leaks.

So after two full tanks and two full cans of seafoam ( some of it was put thru intake) my mpg for 90% highway is 20mpg.

Seems to be running ok does have a strange highway power issue. Very subtle as I accelerate to 70mpg there are times where there are flat spots in power.
If I give it a little gas not enough to down shift but enough to say go from say 60-70 sometimes it feels ok othertimes it just does nothing till I really have to step on it and get it to Downshift. Then it really just makes noise and slowly accelerates.

What are some other reason for poor mileage. Any ideas
Have a new fuel filter but the old one is rusted in pretty bad and I can't seem to remove it.

You shall first have to decide if you wish to guess and throw parts at the issue, or connect a LIVE DATA SCANNER and see what the ECU is using as data..

Post the results and we may be able to assist....

The P0440 is an evap code, check the gas cap..

Yeah. You should be seeing close to 30 MPG's. :(

You're not a "lead foot" or straining to spin up oversize (tall) tires are you?

Welcome aboard too! Ex-Mass guy myself.

Ok here's the freeze frame data for the p0440 dtc

Tps 0.0
Rpm 827
Calcload 23.5%
Map 10.6
Coolant 201
Iat 25
St ftrm1 -2.3
Lt ftrm1 3.9
Speed 17
Fuel sys1 clsd

If I need live data should it be from idle or cruising speed.

I just got an actor 9575 scanner I'm not really sure how to use it

Live data should be recorded at idle and at 2000rpm...

FF data is recorded at the moment the DTC is triggered...
With a Calcload of 23%, I would expect to see more than 0 for TPS angle.
The LTFT is adding fuel... Expected if it is getting illegal air...
Recheck all hoses on evap system...

2000rpm under load of just in the driveway?
Either, depending on what you are investigating... The ECU MUST remain CL in these conditions...
I have posted a basic OBDII system test several time,, do a search...
