I was filling up my 95 Samurai today. As I was filling it up petrol was leaking, under the panel (and onto my shoes)- but i dont know where from. It looked like it was from the pipe from the petrol cap, ut I drove off and checked. it stopped leaking and hasnt done since. But the cabin now smells of petrol, very strongly, which seems to be coming from the front. The engine doesnt smell, the tank isnt leaking and as i said, it hasnt leaked since.

It may have been the petrol pump at the gas station, but i was wondering if this is something that others have had....?

Many thanks in advance.

I would remove the exterior metal cover that protects the lower section of fuel hose from getting whacked by stuff coming off the tire (3 bolts). Check the hose for leaks or wear spots. Then go inside and remove the interior metal cover that protects the upper section of hose. Check all the hoses there. I'm betting on the lower hose, but you may get surprised.

Thanks Bill. I there is a hole, could it be covered with something like muffler tape, until I can get it replaced?

Remember that gas will eat most adhesives, so you may be able to temporarily patch it, but you need to replace it as soon as possible (if you find that there is a hole or tear). Also be aware that although this is just a filler hose, the gas cap still keeps the system under some pressure to operate so you may be fighting that too.
