hi.
my '53 wagon r+ 1.3 is revving at around 2200rpm when started from cold.
then goes down to around 1200rpm when its warming up.
will only idle at around 800rpm once its warmed up.
any ideas?
thanks.

What makes you think this is a problem? My '98 Grand Vitara (2.0 engine) idles at 1800 rpm on a cold start, drops to 1200 within a minute or two and idles at roughly 750 when at operating temperature - the actual rpms may change, but, most gasoline engines do something similar.

possibly. but i've never another car do it. 2200 is so high, the car drives itself. not really very safe. and it never used to do it.

and it never used to do it.
this bit of info would have helped if you had stated this at the beginning, so the excessive high idle is new.
When did it happen?
how long has it been doing it?
what had you done to the vehicle in the previous month?
replaced anything?
sudden weather changes?
