Hi all,

What do you recon this is then? I got under my Jimny and noticed an oil leak from the tin shield on the end of the bell housing? Is it a gasket, something has worked its way loose, or could the oil be coming from elsewhere?

Any help would be much appreciated

An oil leak from the bellhousing area will typically come from one of two places - the transmission's input shaft seal - or - the engine's rear main seal - if you can determine what sort of oil it is, you'll be able to tell which one is leaking.

Depending on the particular vehicle and engine (I believe the Jimny was available with more than one engine type) there could be other possibilities, but those are the two most common ones.

also keep in mind that the bell housing is one of the lowest points on the engine and when you see oil dripping from it, it could have run there from just about anywhere on the engine.

Wow!

Thanks Fordem for getting back so fast!

I take a look and see. To be honest, i only glanced at it before and it looked like black engin oil. Its not a major leak, just a small drip now and then.

thanks again
