Can anyone tell me how to stop an oil leak from the stock valve cover???I have tried everything I can think of and it keeps leaking?I have heard the aluminum valve cover will stop this,is it true?

Are you using just RTV to seal it? I bought an engine gasket set and the one that came for the valve cover was a formed gasket to fit the valve cover. I just put a thin layer of RTV on the engine side, then put the actual gasket that came in the kit on top and tightened everything back up again. I suppose the cover could also be a little mishaped from overtightening, too? Just a thought.

Yep,tried just a gasket,gasket w/RTV,and both side with RTV none have sealed.I have checked my cover and to the naked eye it appears ok.Im kinda nervous about the oil getting on my header!I'd hate to be going down the road and see flames coming from under the hood!!!

Oh lawd, that would not be good. Maybe someone else here with greater knowledge can give you a good tip, or something. Good luck!

first thing to do is find where on the cover it's leaking from. A comon leak that's confused with the valve cover leaking is the Distributor oil seal. There's a little O-ring on the Dizzy that likes to leak oil all over the back of the engine and transmission.
Next thing to do if your leak IS still coming from the cover, check to see if you have a plugged PCV valve. If the air pressure isn't venting out the PCV valve then it's got to go somewhere. Excessive Pressure from blow by on the cylinders can also cause the seals to leak. The oil seal isn't designed to be a pressure seal. If you glue the whole thing down air tight and weld it, the pressure will just blow out somewhere else.

If the PCV is functioning ok and there isn't excess air pressure blowing out the pipe for the PCV, the Next thing to do is straighten your cover out, cause that's the only other reason it would be leaking. Straightening a valve cover is tricky and its usually easier and cheaper just to buy one from a scrap yard. This would be a good excuse to upgrade to the geo-metro aluminum cover. (bling bling) Don't replace the cover though untill you've checked the other areas... leaking oil is often a symptom of a larger problem. You don't want to bandaid the leak and find out your rings needed to be replaced later down the road when you burn out your engine.

Yea,i checked all that other and I remember seeing on here before about the dist. leaking at that seal,but thats not it either.I have a new pcv.But since you brought to my att the pressure bulid up-that make me wonder about something?When i changed over to my weber I had no need for the vent hose(I thought)coming from the cover so I pluged it.Now its going to a "T" so one hose is still going to my pcv but do you think may I should unplugg that hose although i have no where to put unless I gett one of those cool looking little breather looking things to go on it,lol.What you think?Could that be my prob??
