Well, I just bought a 2002 XL-7 with 52k miles on her. Gotta say, I like this thing.

So, all you veterans... what do I need to know, check, look for, and expect.

I appreciate anything you folks can throw at me.

Listen for a tick on start up.. Its a sign that the timing chain tensioner #1 is playing up..
Then its time to get the timing chain done..

Never use the 4x4 system on Tarmac or any surface where the wheels cannot slip..
XL-7's don't have a centre differential so it cannot distribute the power to seperate axles.

Apart from that... nothing else I can really think of.. They are pretty durable and reliable.

Just keep the servicing up to it with decent Oil and Decent Oil filters and you should be fine..

Thanks, double O seven. Two very good to know items there. Would never have thought about the 4 wheel system.

... but now I want to know more about that. Are both axles limited slip, just the rear? Appreciate any reply.

On mine, they are NOT LSD... they are just a regular Open diff as far as I can tell...

Fordem would be able to assist you in finding out more indepth info about your ride...
