If it is just a 2 wire square white plastic switch, then is it supposed to be attached to the bottom of the ignition key cylinder. It is a key reminder switch....it is supposed to cause a beeper to go off, if the key is left in the ignition when the door is opened.
If it is a 3 wire switch that consists of a silver colored L shaped metal bracket and square black switch, then that is the check engine light reset switch. When the CEL comes on because the odometer reached a preset mileage interval, the black switch is flipped in the opposite direction, to turn the CEL off, until the next preset mileage interval is reached, or there is an actual fault detected.
