The fuel filter was changed.
We opened the lines on the engine and switched the key on, there was pressure. Don't know about other areas.
Will try the starting fluid

That does NOT tell you there is pressure, it tells you there is fuel flowing, and provides no details as to what the pressure is, or even if there is an adequate volume of fuel flowing.

Fuel injection systems require a certain of amount of pressure to lift the pintle off of it's seat, insufficient pressure will result in no injection.

Generally speaking, flow & pressure are inversely related - as flow increases, pressure decreases - you may well be in a situation where with no fuel flowing (because the engine is not running) there is just enough pressure for the injectors to work, and as soon as the engine starts and fuel starts to flow, the pressure drops too low for the injectors to open - this would point to either a weak pump or a restriction in the fuel lines/system.

You need to get a fuel pressure gauge and measure the pressure at the fuel rails.
