Hi. I'm on the hunt for a Samurai. Specifically, I'm looking for the long wheelbase version with the skylights (?) on the side of the hardtop. Seeing as I don't even know what that model is yet, I guess I'd better do my research first. Anyone out there who can point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Copied from other thread:

Tell us where you are located Brothermoe, and we can give you a better idea of how hard (or how expensive) it will be to find a LWB.
The good news about the top, there is a company that is building NEW tops for the LWB so you don't have to try and repair one that's 20 years old.

*edit*
Forgot, I will get you some model numbers when i get home after work...

Thanks Billjohn. I happen to be from the Philippines so maybe some model numbers will do. There used to be a lot of those (LWBs) here but there are so few of them now that I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. My friend said that the specific model I'm interested in is more streamlined than the older versions but that description is really vague. Anyway, I'm just basically looking to replace my old clunker with something more durable. That said, I look forward to your reply sir and thanks.

Well, the numbers that I was thinking about turned out to be the different standard length SJ410's...

SJ410 - no top version
SJ410Q - convertable version
SJ410v - tintop version
SJ410K - pickup version

In all the brochures I have, the long wheelbase models were all just refered to as the LWB option.

Thanks Billjohn. I now have somewhere to start. Another question though, what years were the sj410 produced? Question rephrased, what year model would be the best to get(i.e.: freehubs, autohubs, features etc... )? I intend to use the Samurai as a family car and to lug around my mountain bike on weekends.

Cheers!

Those numbers refered to the 82-85 model years. They made LWB models of the 413 and newer but I don't have any additional info on them. You guys get all the good stuff, we only had these for a more limited time. And with very few exceptions, we only got the short wheelbase tintop and convertable.

I know that long wheel base Samurais are still built out of the assembly line in India, which is not so far away from the Philipines :)

It's called Maruti Gypsy, here's a quote from Wikipedia:
Maruti Gypsy

Similar to the SJ-413/Samurai. It is only available in a LWB version and is still in production. More information can be found at Maruti Gypsy
Here's an article about it:
Maruti Gypsy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And here's a picture. It is a Samurai all the way to its core, rebadged and stretched. It is built until today, as far as I remember. It uses the new Suzuki Jimny engine with 1.3 Liters 16 valves and fuel injection, good for 80 HP.
