So in my first five months I learned a lot, I changed water pump, timing belt, idler pulleys, serpentine belt, gaskets, oil seals, plugs, wires, every water hose, oil, air filter, cabin filter".............and 69 days later I find exhaust leaking into coolant, head gasket failure

These cars are absolute freakin junk

These cars are absolute freakin junk

I would beg to differ... perhaps you picked up one that was abused and very poorly maintained.

I've had mine going on four years now, and I still have had no major problems. Maintenance is key and I think you got yourself a junker version of this great car.

I agree with exist3nce and Spook155. Mine is an 05 and I have had it since summer of 2007 and it is still going strong. Maintenance is a must and I believe you either got a lemon or your Forenza was not maintained at all.

mine was a trade in to kia of murphy nc, it had been bought in florida, woman owned, one owner, she did have some kind of mechanic, his skills appear to have been mediocre at best,
I bought it january 2012, put it in uncle/mechanics shop (he is listed in ASE hall of fame, hes not good, he is the best)
when the engine was opened I did find a gates timing belt, it had been changed, odometer was showing 128,000.
the tranny had been serviced, I could tell it had been resealed within the last 6 months or so. range sensor has been replaced, shifts ok.
valve cover gasket was leaking badly, he had tried to fix it and failed, we changed it.
so it was maintained, showed alot of eviedence of it. however he wasnt the worlds greatest mechanic,
mine was a delux ex model, every option, everything works but steering wheel controls.

I would say you two are lucky in the cars you own, every site on the web has problem after problem reported with these cars by caring loving owners. Edmunds has the stories. Local Atlanta dealers wouldnt touch it on trade, said $500..............with it running and looking great. Black book said $3900.
Google this car and hundreds of stories come up, I have to believe at least some of them are true.
The body is so weak the cars body can get dented by just washing it.
The daewoo motor has a reputation that speaks for itself, it can last 220,000 miles or die at 40,000..........you just wont know.
The gasket failing between cylinders is very common.....that sucks.

for the record I had $500 in new parts alone,
timing belt, idler pullys, serpentine belt, front cover gasket, oil seals, oil change, air filter, new air intake rubber at throttle body, every hose, coolant, water pump, plugs, plug wires, cabin filter, fuel system cleaned, valve cover gasket, new battery, I wanted to make sure my daughter would be good to go

I also replaced front grill ($100 at suzuki car parts.com) because of crack,
installed kenwood stereo with pandora and boss speakers in every door,

we were planning on driving this one about 50,000 more miles

note to all shade tree mechanics, I did successfully blue devil the head gasket leak, I had exhaust entering the cooling system in one of the cylinders, didnt check which, seemed like one of the centers. bought the 64$ bottle, followed every instruction except pulling thermostat,
drained all coolant, flushed with water, from both radiator hoses, heater hoses, inside, outside back wards and then again (blue devil doesnt work if there is any antifreeze left in system)
filled car with water, slowly added whole 32 oz bottle of blue devil, idled car for about 30 minutes, drove car 100 miles, head gasket was sealed

I am told this seal is permanant, it is guaranteed by blue devil and I had a co-worker who mad a mechanic do his sons car and the kid drove it another year, then sold it and that person is still driving it

I would agree about the stock headgaskets, they are shitty. I've seen enough stories of them blowing on completely stock motors. My factory one lasted 2.5 years of regular driving and 1.5 years of 10+psi boost before it gave up. Switched to Cometic MLS and ARP studs and haven't had a problem since.

yeah, no doubt, the internet is loaded with stories of these weak head gaskets.
these stories and problems I speak of are common in these cars and that is unfortunate
