Hey Everyone! So I was driving my sister's car (04 jetta 2.0) the other day and I realized how freaking awesome the throttle response was! No matter how quick I punched the gas and released, the car still responded accordingly. I figured the pedal had to be attached with wire instead of a sensor like my kiz but when I went to check it out it wasn't! SoOo does anybody know if there is anyway (other then buying a chip, piggyback, flash or what have you) to greatly improve the response of my Kiz? I mean I love my 6 speed and i'm not trying to improve horse power but driving the jetta made me realize the lag there is in my kiz. If there really isn't another way other than chips and such, What would you guys recommend to be my best options to improve the response?

It has to be chipped. The throttle response is designed like that because if you just floor it you get a big spike in NOx emmissions so the ECU won't allow it.

well it is strange but u could adjust the ignition timer and run higher octane fuel as well as install a short ram intake or remove the air ducting silencer off the factory intake. just a suggestion

id take it in to get the ECU reprogrammed. ive seen jettas get 30+ horsepower from getting the ecu reprogrammed. it cost me $40 for the shop to do my durango... so i assume it will be a similar cost. with a kiz you can prolly get 200hp out of it. but just for throttle response id get better spark plugs and adjust the ignition. the cold air intake and higher octane would give more power but not throttle response. but all of the kiz ive seen and herd of have that issue.... floor the gas the rpms go to 6000 and then it starts to go. if you reprogram the ECU you will get better mpg, hp and better sound.

throttle response

So I have a short ram in my kiz and the response isn't much better I'm also lookin to shorten my response time so I think I'm gonna switch out one of my pullies the one that come oem is just over 4lbs which slows the crank shaft so I'm going to purchase one that is only .5lbs ill gain about 9hp and the crank shaft won't have soo much to move and hopfully decrease the time it takes my kiz to get into the powerband. Ill deff let everone know how it goes if anyone is interested

I assume the people with complaints about throttle response have Kizashi's with the CVT? If so, that is most likely your problem.

Ricknasty90, I don't know how familiar you are with engine operation? The pulley is also called a "harmonic balancer" and is there to stop the engine "self destructing" from vibrations. I'm always pretty leery of HP increase claims other than turbos and super chargers. If all it took was a tweak in the ECU, don't you think Suzuki would have done it. After all, HP claims are what sells cars. I'm sure Suzuki tuned it for max HP while still meeting emissions regulations and maintaining reliability for the 100K warranty. The SX4 had similar problems. I got mine flashed which cost about $500. Maybe a little better throttle response, acceleration and mileage, but not $500 worth. Learned my lesson. And this was from a reputable company that spent a lot of time and money in the R&D necessary to do it right. Anybody who is going to do it for cheap is a total scam. Cold air intakes? Probably can't even measure HP increase. OK, if you like the sound, do it, but not for any HP gain. It's just not there. A different crank pulley? Do you really think a difference in a couple pounds is really going to effect the HP of an engine that's turning out 185 already? The SX4 had an "under-pulley" available for it. It was a slightly smaller and lighter pulley that was supposed to help the engine spool up faster. I think the biggest effect it had was the headlights and such would dim due to the alternator spinning slower. So before you "invest" a bunch of money into HP increase solutions, I'd do a lot of research of my own first.
