With continued home working we decided that we no longer needed the Ignis. Local Suzuki dealer selling similar cars at stupidly high prices - more than I paid for the car two years ago. l put 12 months Suzuki comprehensive warranty on the car (£0 excess) and had loads of private interest. The new purchaser was delighted it had a spare wheel - he had been quoted £350 as a dealer extra. Bottom line is that the car including spare wheel and extended warranty has cost me £700 for 2 years motoring - Very pleased.

Would I buy another Ignis? We’ll, I almost did last year but now there’s no rhyme or reason for the price increase of new and used Ignis cars to the extent that the model has lost much of it’s attraction

Still never say never!

This forum has been a terrific source of advice and information and long may it continue.

I must admit when I bought my Ignis for £13,149 in 2018 I'd taken the decision firstly to buy a new car rather than a second-hand one and secondly that henceforeward, I was going to trade it in after three years to obviate guarantee expiry and MoT requirement.

Obvious Covid then came along together with early retirement and it seemed wrong to trade in a perfectly good car after about 10,000 miles. I'd have had the facelift Ignis SZ5 Auto - but I much prefer the interior of the pre-facelift version. So in 2021 I took out an extended warranty and the car sailed through its MoT. In 2022 again I took out an extended warranty and it sailed through its MoT. There's been no claim on the warranty, and no AA callout. The only thing it's needed is a new set of tyres at £360 and 52.8mpg of petrol.

Autotrader reckons it's worth advertising on their site at £10,730 - so it's cost me around £585pa (excluding petrol) or £11pw which is about one taxi ride per week into town.

Or including petrol at £1763.46 it works out at around 28p/mile.

Why would you put a top of the range warranty on a car to sell it privately? Why didn't you sell the spare wheel?

Easier to sell.
Very true. Once you've crossed around the £5000 mark, buyers have value for the thing that a dealer offers such as a warranty. These are bargaining tools used by private buyers to bring the price down even though it's a good price in the first place. In the case of the Ignis , I got the car professionally valeted and added a full Suzuki warranty for around £220 total, so absolutely no different to a car sold on Suzuki dealer forecourt. So I got the (good) price I asked and the buyer knew full well what he was genuinely saving against the dealer. Obviously difficult to prove but I'm certain I recouped the £220.

Dealer extended warranties are often cheaper (and better) than many general used car warranties - many of which are garbage.

As for the spare wheel (aftermarket) - it cost around £120 in the first place - just not worth a lot of hassle (courier etc) and ending up with £50. The buyer knew that a spare wheel was £350 at the dealers so another attraction in buying the car.

I wont need to replace the Ignis unless something changes with our home working arrangements. I've passed on the details of this forum to the new owner.
