The wife's ignis is due its first year/12.500 mile service.

Checked on the website and it quotes £171 at my nearest dealer, the one we bought the car from.

Has anyone managed to beat this price from an official dealership?

My friend used to play different local be dealerships off against each other til he got a quote he liked for servicing his golf GTi.

Just wondering if it's worth the effort with Suzuki??

I checked out service costs before I bought it. Here's the writeup from previously:

I picked up the variability in servicing costs before buying my car. I checked the six closest dealers and found out the one I intended using was the most expensive by far.

They couldn't really explain why apart from the fact that they included a valet and a MoT in the third year. It's not as if it's a "posh" garage at all - edge of town on a small site with "old" buildings...

So with their agreement I've taken out a monthly service deal direct with Suzuki, who were significantly cheaper even if not the cheapest. It also means that I can switch garages if I either fall out with them or move away.

Here are the figures:

When I booked it in for the year 1 service they hadn't realised I had a service plan, but fortunately I'd left all the documents in the car and it was done without issue.

Good info, thanks for sharing. Can you agree a service plan at any stage? Or is it a case of once you have paid for a single service you can't get on a plan.

Will look at a plan later via Suzuki direct and see what it comes out at compared to my local dealer over 3 years. Once the warranty is over I am likely to take it to an independent or do it myself. If keeping it long term

Just had a quick look online.

Looks like I could save a whopping £100 over four years on a plan as opposed to paying individually at my local and nearest dealership.

There's a massive difference between dealers on servicing costs even in the same area. It's time that Suzuki had standard menu servicing. Toyota for example have UK wide servicing charges. I don't know if it's a general thing but I was a little surprised at not being given a copy of a check sheet when I had my Ignis serviced. This would normally have some comments re tyre wear, brake pad wear etc etc.

I was not aware of that but I have to say the Celerio service was very cheap where I go to. Also they take in to account my low miles and do a commensurate service which is appreciably cheaper. I just hope the 3 year one is not too bad. It will be the last one done by a dealer and I shall get the MoT on it at the same time.

I was about to book the 2nd service (2yr / 25000mile) at my cheapest local dealer to find that the price on the Suzuki website had jumped from £235 to £280 in the last couple of weeks. They're still the cheapest and prices in a 20 mile radius vary from £280 to £348 - an incredible difference of 23%.

I checked labour times with Suzuki who told me:
1st service - 0.9 hrs
2nd service - 2.1 hrs (2WD) and 2.2 hrs (4WD)
3rd service - 1.0 hrs. (same as 1st service + change pollen filter)

I've just had the car serviced by a local independent following the Suzuki checklist, using Suzuki parts and the same oil as the dealer - I supplied the parts. Cost was:
3.6 L oil - £34.34
oil filter + sump washer £11.80
air filter £24.00
1L Mintex DOT3 brake fluid £5.40
Labour £111.00
Total £186.54 inc VAT

This represents a saving of £94 against the cheapest local Suzuki dealer and £162 against the dearest. Using Blueprint oil and air filters would have reduced the cost by a further £16.

It's worth pointing out that non- Suzuki servicing doesn't affect the warranty - provided that the work is documented and that it's a proper garage (VAT registered in my case). The Block Exemption Regulations also allow approved non-Suzuki parts to be used.

I'd already checked the availability of front brake pads in case they were needed. It's interesting that Blueprint have just catalogued pads for the Ignis at about £18 a set inc. VAT (part no ADK84245) - more than £50 cheaper than Suzuki. As it happened, the existing pads were less than 50% worn. However the garage did comment that the discs were about half worn (20mm thick when new - minimum allowable 18mm) so the car may well need new discs when new pads are eventually needed. I was also surprised that Suzuki specify DOT3 rather than DOT4 brake fluid for the Ignis.

Please shout out if you want part numbers for filters etc - both genuine Suzuki and aftermarket.
