Has anyone replaced the idler pulley on a 2010 SX4?
I intend to replace my IDLER PULLEY, serpentine belt and tensioner pulley.
Rockauto list two types of idler pulleys, smooth or grooved. Does anyone know which one is needed for a 2010 SX4? Thanks for your help.

My car is a 2010 SX4 AWD, Air conditioning and power steering.

Yeah umm thanks i guess for that brilliant suggestion. If it were that simple, I think I would have done it already.
But you cant see the pulley from looking under the hood. You need to look from underneath the car to view the pulley. You need to raise and support the car properly, remove the front right wheel, then remove about 10 screws or bolts holding on the plastic splash guard. Then you can see the belt and pulleys. I just wanted to order parts online so I have them for the weekend when I will have a chance to change it.

Probably require both. Being in the USA it will be the 2.0l but could I believe be either the j20a or j20b engine.I don't know if they share the same idlers . I can't help much more at present as I'm just using my phone.

2010 is J20B. Both tensioner and idler ride the back of the belt...so smooth. I do not see how they can offer a grooved one. And no, J20A and B do not have the same tensioner. Hard to find and most of the times aftermarket lists only the J20A tensioner.

I see that ROckAuto lists both idler and tensioner (pulley alone)....but I also see the same part number comes for their J20A and J20B tensioner replacement....so I'm not sure of the exact fit...the larger diameter of the J20A original..if transferred to a J20B...might crank the tensioner a bit too much, let alone clearance ....????

Thanks all for your help. So yes it appears (both) idler pulleys are smooth. I did not realize there were two! My parts are ordered now so it looks like I will just buy another one locally when I get the belt off and get an up close look. Thanks.

check the tensioner carefully, they do get "soggy" with age and lose spring tension.

ok, i will. I had not counted on replacing the tensioner itself, but I did order a tensioner pulley. Car has 136k on it and none of these components have been replace before. Except I think early on 2011 or something, there was a recall for belt or tensioner. I dont remember.

I tend to replace the tensioner as an assembly when I replace a belt. if its got good tension then it should be fine. I do tend to replace it as a precaution as i find they can fail 10,000 miles later and lead to squeaky belts, bad charging and other issues.
By all means replace the pulley, thats a very sensible idea, but I'd get a tensioner assembly sometime and toss it in the spares cupboard for the day you need it if it fails without warning.
