Help With Automatic

Hi All.

I'm having an issue with my Suzuki grand Vitara 2005 1.6 petrol automatic. (SQ416 97hp)

It seems to be stuck in 3rd gear when I select Drive. It shifts perfectly from L to 2 when I do it manually. Also there is no indication of the A/T and O/D switches working.

I have check everything that I can, however today I noticed the ECU was changed. It was written on the way the scrap yards do to mark them. Is it possible that a manual ECU was installed?

The part number for the ECU that's in the car is.

33920-50J2 0
050J2 EY
E6T16971H

Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Is this new to you ?

I recently purchased the car, So I don't know the history of the vehicle. It was quite run down that I brought back to life and it's back on the road now and this is the problems from my first test drive.
Confirm you have the vacuum modulator connected and that the actuation pin is installed inside..

I was under the impression that the 4speed is electronically shifted box. I don't think there is a vacuum modulator.
4 speed is electronic and will default to 3rd if the connector is unplugged but will shift manually
If someone has fitted a manual ecm that would account for it, but id expect other 8sdyes as well

I think the 33920-50J2 0 is from a manual but I can't confirm that at present.

Thank you all very much for the help.
Seems like 33920-50J31 is not easy to find at all. Anyone know where there is one available in Europe?
Does anyone know if the 33920-82D2 is the same or will work in the auto like 33920-50J31?

You're missing one character of the part number - it should be two sets of five

Thanks Fordem. The correct number is 33920-82D21.

Is the a list where I could find which ECUs are compatible. Could the 2l AT ECU be programmed for the 1.6?
As far as I can tell the 33920-82D21 fits the 2.0 with a manual transmission.

If you go to megazip.net and enter the part number in the search box, most times it'll tell you what vehicles that part fits, BUT, the ECUs are not just vehicle specific, they are market specific as different markets had different emission regulations, so a US market vehicle in 2000 does not use the same ECU as a UK market vehicle in 2000, and to further complicate matters, a 2005 GV, in Ireland, if it's an official import would have been fitted with an immobilizer, so you would need an ECU that know how to communicate with an immobilizer and then program the ECU & immobilizer to one another.

I suspect your vehicle is not an official import.

Thanks very much. It is a Japanese import I believe. I'll keep looking for the ECU. The manuals are easy to come by not so much the autos.
I have found an ECU for an AUTO. Does anyone know if this would work in my car? 33920-82d30
I can offer no guarantee, but I think it's a good candidate - if you're willing to share the VIN/Chassis number with me, I might be able to dig a little deeper.

Thanks Fordem.
Using the VIN, to get the correct part catalog, the 33920-50J31 is the correct ECU for the vehicle, the 33920-82D30 is for an earlier model of the same vehicle, built for the same market - as I mentioned before, I can offer no guarantee, but I think it's worth trying.

I appreciate the advice. I also think it's worth a try. I'll update the thread once I have it in. A family member will bring it for me next month. Gotta remove the Immobilizer IC and replace it with the one in the current ECU.

Thanks again.
