June 2014 wife's 2009 GV started going into limp mode. (They have the Laguna 1.9 diesel engine)

The garage found that the turbo was over boosting due to the variable vanes sticking inside with carbon. Their answer was to advise having the turbo removed and sent to a turbo specialist to be properly cleaned at a cost of £600.

After research on the net into variable vane turbos (sometimes called variable geometry turbos) I found that there is a cheaper way by spraying turbo cleaner into the air inlet (or oven cleaner) removing the pipe going to the top of the vacuum and waggling the small arm that comes from the vacuum to the turbo until it moves freely.

All the above method is freely available on Youtube

The car now works fine and the total cost was £8
