i have a 87 sami and it has a 1.6L conversion. gears r all stock and im only getting 18-19mpg i know it should be more any suggestions on improvements. Also i just did a tune up so thats all good. I'm only running 265/75R15 tirs as well.

Your tire size has changed and your gearing hasn't. This will effect gas mileage. In order to see the higher (original) MPG ratings, you would have to change the gears to make up for the tire size change (as long as the engine output is constant - meaning no additional power makers). Throw the jumper in and see if you get any diagnostic codes.
If so, you are in limp-home nmode and dumping gas.


Is there an O2 sensor?
Did you add a VSS for the 1.6? eCU?

Surely if there were any diagnostic codes the check engine light would be flashing?

That is if the samurai has one? I own a jimny which also doesn't exhibit stellar fuel consumption, and I had thought that if there were any electrical faults the check engine light would be flashing.....
