Hi all,
OK, after a couple of overheating "breakdowns" this week, I thought I'd have a look at my daughter's Alto for her this weekend.
After driving it and leaving it running in the driveway on a warmish day, the fan isn't coming on. As both top and bottom radiator hoses are getting to the same temp, I'm assuming the thermostat is opening and hence it's getting hot enough that the fan should be coming on?
So, have checked fuse and relay (Swapped the latter for a known good one in the fuse box), and no difference.
I thought my next step would be to test the fan by shorting the wire on the temperature sensor to force it on, and then probably test or just replace the temp sensor if the fan itself worked OK.
So first question is where on earth is the temp sensor? I can see what it looks like from an online parts catalogue, but can't see where it is on the engine!
Failing that, any other ideas on whether this is a common fault, or if I'm missing something else I should be checking?
Is there a way of getting a temperature display on the dash, or are there just warning lights which come on?
Also, does anyone know of a manual or at least exploded diagram of the cooling system showing the locations of such things? Seems to be not much out there for the Alto?
Many thanks!
