Engine is hard to start, but idles great. It smothers down when I try to accelerate. When it warms up, it does better, but still not right. Changed the coil, spark plugs and ignition wires. Helped some. What am I missing? Put an aftermarket carburetor with a manual choke on it several months ago.

Thanks, will try to borrow a compression gauge. This is on a 1991 Suzuki Carry with F6A engine. Don't know what compression should be

compression should be between 140-170 PSI all within 10 percent.
Take the cap off the distributor put a hose on the diaphram can and suck on it if the pickup moves its ok, also check the hose for vaccum when you rev the engine...should help cross off a few possibles

If that dont fix it ...fit a new fuel filter and then start it up let it warm up a bit then remove the intake hose.....then rev it up and place your hand over the intake till it starts to die, do this 2-3 times....your carb could have some crap in it but this trick usually works
