my samurai's engine blew a piston, so I've swapped in the block and head from a 92 geo metro. I've had to use the camshaft from the original samurai engine, but have used all other pieces from metro head in reassembly.

When all is reassembled according to the book (Haynes manual) the spark is firing on three when it shoud be on one. It seems as though the camshaft is 180 degrees out of turn (but that doesn't agree with the book). I've tried turning the camshaft 180 and the engine will start and run, but runs extremely rough - adjusting the timing doesn't seem to help (when I adjust the timing the engine either runs worse, or not at all).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure I've missed something obvious, but just can't see it.
