It's my 2nd post.. im looking to add a secondary airconditioning system for my Every van. ive been asking around (im from davao) different aircon shops. there's 1 aircon repair/installation shop that intrigues me, the technician told me that they will put a 2nd evaporator above the driver seat. the condenser will be put under the van (im not sure where) and this aircon system will be taken taken from a surplus hyundai starex aircon.

my questions are:
- is this possible, or does anyone here have tried it?
- will it have a drastic effect on the engine performance? maybe shorten the engine life..
- all in all, can someone help me and share the possible pros and cons?
- any alternatives for a dual aircon set-up?

need you expert advice guys.. the shop is asking me PhP 16k. better to have proper knowledge first before doing this (or not).

I will share you all the info once I will do this.

Tia!

I have no idea of the dual aircon set up. Maybe the experts here will share some of their ideas... BTW, potskie, if i'm not mistaken, same as mine, your ride is a full-time 4WD. Is it also EFI and with Turbo? TY

Mine is a carb-type and 4wd. dont know if its full-time, no idea on that. Im not sure if its turbo, but since its a carb-type, i assume that its non-turbo.

Ahh ok... Full-time 4WD, no option for the 2WD. Part-time 4WD has either a button or another shift lever for the 4WD to engaged... BTW, have u already seen the Engine Nos. of the Suki van? It is said to be near the intake manifold...
Thank you...

Hi Potskie, in my own opinion just let some good A/C technician check your system first, 16K for additional unit is quite expensive and the warranty of it is another question after the installation. I have same trouble before but after I change the compressor and install new O-rings on the line everything work perfect as expected and don't forget to check also the thermostat, the whole system will get automatic ON and OFF when the temp was reach to a certain value.

Hi guys, been busy lately.. just an update, i did not forego with the dual setup. I dont have complete confidence with it. No clear explanation as to what they will do. I just have my aircon cleaned and recharged with freon. I noticed only a little improvement. Right now, im still searching and waiting.. Thanks to Mr. Bruce for some informative inputs and to all who commented. I will update all you guys if something will come up.

Anyone from Davao who knows a good and honest aircon shop?

greetings sir potskie,,,, is your ac system made from orig suk items or from local parts...orig items (motor assy., evaporator, RF134 tubings, air handling tubes, controller box, thermoswitch, condenser, and harness) have no problem in operations, unless the installer made substantial changes in the conversion....

mine are all orig items (motor transferred from right to left only, using same orig housing and mounted on its orig mounting, with fan replaced with same size but reversed concave blades (surplus costing P100 only)- evap housing inverted to fit space in the underdash (can be separately removed for cleaning/maintenance), all done DIY but on longer time),,, and worked perfect... (pics to follow)...

Definitely it will have a great power loss in engine power..even felt in single ac system, much more if you'll double the eveporator..and one more thing is, you're system will require a bigger compressor because double size system means greater rfrigerant flow rate, or run you're engine at very hi rpm just to meet the condensation and evaporation standard pressures, definitely will shorten the engine life and it will eat a lot of petrol maybe comparable to the consumption of a 3 liter engine..

@redhawk: I believe that my zuk's ac system is all orig. will send pics later.
@jtilano828: thanks sir.

One technician told me also that i should change the condenser and install one from a 1HP or 1.5HP window-type room aircon... I said.. huh? i thought he was joking but he was serious. What can you say about that guys?

greetings sir potz...

if you can find the orig second condenser (small size kit), the better.. as it is the original to the system.... even when using the orig sets, you will feel there is a loss of power...
