just happened today, i forgot something halfway down the steep driveway stopped in the middle then reversed and went up the hill. then on my way back down in neutral the whole truck was shaking like crazy, the shift lever is going all over the place and the transfer case is shaking around too,(looked under car while driving) all this happening 1-5 mph. speeding up to 15-20 made it not as shaky but still sketchy and didnt want to go further.
i was thinking maybe the u-joints on the shaft from the transmission to the transfer case since they are old. rears are new and front shaft doesnt spin in neutral so canceled that out(or does it?)
any ideas???

Some things to check first:

Transfer case mounts, U-joints, transmission mounts.

The front driveshaft rotates when the transfer case is in Neutral or 4WD. I recently had a stubbornly bad (stiff) U-joint on my Samurai's short intermediate shaft that took me a while to diagnose. You might look at the motor mounts while you're at it, but it wouldn't seem that they're the source of the immediate problem. If I had to guess with little-to-no info, I'd start with the transfer case mounts. They fail commonly.

transfer case & engine mounts are good.
transmission mount is not good! where can i get a new one?
is there only one transmission mount? the one right below the intermediate shaft, cuz you said transmission mounts i only saw 1.

nevermind on the part found one at low range.
anyone replaced one of these seems easy enough right?
except for those rusty bolts that might need grinding off... RRRRRR.
