My 2000 GV's battery is so dead even the red LEDs for the alarm system are completely out. The hood release apparently has an electronic activator; feels wrong, lacks usual resistance partway out (just before audible click and latch opens). How can I get the hood open so I can check/change the battery?

Thanks.

There is no (stock) electronics associated with the hood release. Get a 2nd person to push down on the front hood edge while pulling the release lever.

I also dont believe there i an electrical interlock on the hood..

However, If you can access the starter from under the car, connect a set of jumpers to the main terminal (red) and ground (black), connect to good battery as in boosting.

Whalla, you have power to open and start ....

Thanks. Max's suggestion worked. Didn't even need a second person: gently pushed hood down and it stuck, went around and pulled lever myself.

GV has always been in desert so latch mechanism has no rust; does cable need a little silicone spray, or is latch designed to work like that?

Cool!

does cable need a little silicone spray,
Can't hurt, but probably more important is to lube the latch mechanism.

Something like this stuff is ideal and comes with a thin nozzle / tube to attach to it...
