My 87' samurai makes a whining (sounds like a bearing) noise when you don't press the clutch in when you are sitting still in neutral. If you press in on the clutch it makes no noise. I think it is the same noise I hear running down the road and it kind of changes when you give it gas and let of the gas pedal. Is this probably the throw-out bearing or could it be a bearing in the tranny? It shifts perfectly and feels tight. If it is the clutch bearings and I replace the clutch and bearings any suggestions on where to get it and what type and brands to get?

Try lengthening the clutch cabe a little first. It might be letting the throwout bearing ride against the clutch fingers when released and not comming off them. With no load on the bearing it will rattle some.
