An 05 plate doesn't tell us much - so the vehicle was registered between March of 2005 & August of 2006, and it has a 1.5 engine - if I had a chassis number (or VIN), I might be able to find you a part number for that clutch cable.

It's more accurate to check against the registration number so if you have an UK reg please.
I beg to differ - that part number came from the same tool that Suzuki themselves use to order the parts, it doesn't get more accurate than that - if, for some reason a part is changed during the production run, let's say they switched suppliers, that tool will tell you the "break point", VINs before this number use part A, after use part B

The tool pulls information from an "as built" database of the vehicles and contains quite a bit of detail, engine number, transmission number, all the various options, right down to things like glass color - as an example when that particular Ignis left the factory (in Hungary) it was blue (Z7B).

What I did find interesting, was the VIN came back as an RM413 with a 1.5 liter engine and not an RM415 which is what I would have expected - the RM is a model code, the 4 defines the number of cylinders, and the 13 or 15 would usually define the engine size.

In your own words " see what UK suppliers come up". And I did just that. You obviously have no clue as to how the UK aftermarket works and if you step into any dealer parts department (including Suzuki) or any parts supplier - the first question asked will be the vehicle registration number since this is the easiest and most accurate way of finding the correct part.

I tracked the part number from the VIN which gave me the info in the attachment below including the registration number and vehicle history. Contrary to your information the model code is RM415.

From the reg the Suzuki parts catalogue gives the part number as 23710-86G40 (Not 23710-86G60 as you state) and this cross references to several aftermarket catalogues. You've got a choice of cable - the cheapest being 25% of Suzuki price.

Both of you have merit on this point, however the world is "dumbing-down" and a rego has less numbers for the owner to recite and this provides a greater deal of certainty and less time needed to enter data for the parts seller. Too bad if the vehicle has long time been unregistered anywhere and dropped off the public database. Considering a battery is now known as a baddery, I just ignore the disappointment of this dumbing-down and accept I can't stop it happening and if I try to correct it - I will be admonished. For ordering parts, the first system used need Manufacturer, Model and Month/Year of production, then V.I.N. WAS the recent former Industry Standard and NOW Rego is the current standard, but I can do one better and quote the actual part number I need to amaze the person at the other end of the phone.

Rego is used here as that ( in most cases but not all) comes up with the make model, year, engine, trans etc and vin as well. The centralised parts computer cross reference system is not too bad, but anomalies do happen.

There have been occasions where its not the info on the search enquiry screen thats wrong, its the parts computer that's got the wrong bit loaded against that model and vin range. 3G 2008 is a case in point, changeover year here for bits. At that point its into a secondary system with the vin and a check against the factory parts list the vin based system checks against that the parts pc doesn't have access to.
Vin lookups is much more accurate than the rego, but for basic bits its not bad, as long as the guy driving it knows the vehicles he's looking up.

Where I am we can get 4 different results from the plate number attached;

1 - if you had Personalised Plates (we own them for life in QLD, no return required when unreg) attached to a vehicle that became unreg, then later sold the vehicle without plates, and didn't advise the rego office the plates were removed, a search of the previous plate number returns that vehicle's details, but with the new plate number if registered - quite strange.

2 - the wrong vehicle description for the criminals out there.

3 - Vehicle not found.

4 - correct vehicle description including VIN and rego status. I think this is what the parts sellers want to make things easier and faster.

Help ! Im looking for a clutch cable for a ignis vvt 4wd 05 plate, can't find one, im a carer and need it for work, its a 1.5
This is an easy cable to find in the UK. See link below to order online or there's many on Ebay (pick one that's posted from the UK) - just search 23710-86G40. Your local car parts shop could also order it for you. Your Suzuki dealer parts department could get one by the next day but far more expensive than the other sources outlined above.

Suzuki lists the 23710-86G40 as fitting LEFT HAND DRIVE vehicles, the 86G60 part is listed as RIGHT HAND DRIVE - the transmission is on the left, the RHD clutch cable is, I believe, longer.

Whats the attachment supposed to be?
I don't know why it's doing that, but you can try clicking on the attachment itself - its a "clip" from the dealer tool, showing the VIN number reported as an RM413 rather than the expected RM415, as I mentioned earlier, I would have expected it to comeback as an RM415, but the tool reports it as an RM413, even though it shows the 1.5 liter engine.

How significant is this? I don't know. How did it happen? I don't know. Does it mean that this vehicle is actually an RM413 that was fitted with an M15 engine at the factory? Maybe, I really don't know. Does this mean that there could be problems if the parts between an RM413 and an RM415 are different? Maybe, I really don't know.

To me, it's something that I found peculiar, I've never seen it before, and I mentioned it.

Please can you share the tool like the dealer uses or give the link. Would be very handy to look up part numbers.

Sorry, no can do.

There are a few on line parts suppliers who have parts catalogs available on line - megazip.net, ssg.asia, and for the newer models, partsouq.com.

Any one of these should allow you to start by entering the vehicle VIN and they'll take you to the catalog page for the vehicle.
