Hello all,
I am new to sammys and to here of course.
I am switching my 1.3 to a 1.6 from a 89 sidekick with efi and vacum advance etc etc.
I do want to go to a 16 valve later on , probably next winter, this is a something to keep in mind when i ask what i am going to ask, ANd you would probably say "why not put the 16 v in now" well I have the 1.6 8v, got it for very cheap and m2y 1.3 is dead and wont run. SO i need an engine asap, and i cant afford a 16 valve right now, so i f i was to do a 16 V now it would be a rush job and nah...
so the question is, my 1.3 had a new weber on it, and obviously im wired for a carb setup right now under the hood. How much horsepower difference would there be with the efi vs the weber?
Where i want to do a 16 v later on , i am thinking it would be simpler to switch the 1.6 to a carb setup for now, as the efi setup and the wiring harness work is going to be the worst of the swap, and well, if its temporary setup for this summer, and when i go to a 16 valve ill have to do the wiring all over again, so i am thinking leave the wiring for now, and run the carb on the 1.6 8v, and then when i do the 16 valve swap, go for the extra work and do the wiring change then , and well, of course i have to cause there is no other option but the multiport efi then i believe,

But , if there ios a horsepower drop with the carb over the stock efi , ill do the wiring and run the efi for sure,
what do you think??
what to do ??
Oh and i am aware i need an external high pressure pump or low pressure decided on which way i choose to go here, thats why id like to figure this out by dinner time tomorrow, cause i am ordering the rest of my parst tomorrow ad n need to know which pump to order

thanks in advance all

You won't lose power with the Weber, its about the same size as a stock 1.6 carb. I had the same dilemma a couple of years ago, I ran the 1.6 8V with all the SJ ancillaries, I'm now doing the 16V swap but using a Baleno engine and ECU.

thanks for the reply, i think ill go carb to save thew extra wiring work for now, if its not going to be the final motor i go with
and if i decicxde to just stick with the 8v, ill do the efi later on
