So I got this 2002 Jimny just a few weeks ago, two of the rims are badly damaged, looking to change out the complete set ..

Like these:

But I see 2 variations with 3.00 in and 4.00 in backspace (Summitracing sales wasn't even sure what it meant, claims it is the offset). I have 215x70x15 on it now what else would i need to know to determine which of the 3 options to get and what is this offset and else I need to know? and am I suppose to not exceed 7.5 width for the rim itself? oh and the 5x5.5 is the same as 5x139.7 ??

A 7" rim is OK for a 215, I wouldn't go any wider but you should be able to check recommended rim sizes on your tyre supplier's website. 4" backspacing should be OK, that's what I have on my steel rims. 3" will give a better stance but you may need to trim the front bumper a little, which isn't too difficult on a 2002. The less backspacing the further the rim sticks out.
Check out bigjimny.com for pictures of Jimnys with different size rims/tyres.
