Well not good news. Mechanic says was probably caused by roo hit a couple of weeks ago. Just come up the Clyde when engine stopped. Only good thing is AAMI have said put in claim and they will probably pay for it. Fingers crossed.

if its the 2.4 4 pack and its lost water and its stopped then At best it will be a head gasket, quite probably a cracked head, and possibly cracked block. If theres no compression in all 4 then its toast, if only 2 are down then you might be lucky and get away with a head gasket and a head.
Have had 2 at work lose water and do the same thing. Stripped one and found head cracked in 4 places and one bore cracked vertically, sold it for parts, the second one had cracked the head but the block survived. We managed to source a second hand engine. When these let go with lack of water, its usually terminal unless you get it shut down instantly.

I'll be interested in seeing what the mechanic finds.

sorry for the bad news, plan for the worst and hope for the best. If he does pull the head and confirms a gasket, get it flouro crack tested, pressure tests usually don't show up cracks cold in these unfortunately. I speak from unhappy experience with this, and it was a 2011 that got a stick thru the radiator and dropped its water and cracked the head. Replacement motor was cheaper than a head.

Do you happen to know the numbers of the blocks that used to crack so we can avoid them?

the vin number range is in the suzuki TSB's not sure if it covers engines, avoid late 2008 to early 2010 if you know years of donors. The 2009 model year pre july was the faulty batch. Link to problems and recalls below.

Well got my "new" engine in. Seller reckoned it only had 50K km on it. Certainly feels and sounds that way. Quieter than my old one....mechanic said aircon exchanger and radiator were clogged up with dead bird and kangaroo. Am going to fit 25mm mesh either behind grille or more probably on my East coast figure eight bar. Thought I had hosed it out but in future need to take off black Plastic shelf to see behind grille. Said he had to drop front suspension. Any thoughts on that 2013?
Assessor wouldn't wear new OEM radiator and recommended an AM. Like just like a real one.

drop front suspension for what?

aftermarket radiators are just as good as long as made correctly and have sufficient cooling capacity. Pop the 3? or 4? plastic buttons across the front of the bonnet seal that holds plastic cover between radiator and grille, whole top cover and grille then comes out as a unit giving real easy access behind bumper etc to get to a/c evaporator.

Yep I have no problem with AM radiators. Hence the comment just like a real one. Although some are better than others. Had a couple over the years. This one looks fine. Yes I didn't know that came off so easy until the mech told me.
