My 2007 SX4 is our winter/dump run car. It will sit for two weeks in the summer.
If I go a week between drives it is sluggish to start, after two weeks it is a no go.
So I did some research and disconnecting the ground from the battery and using my volt/amp meter in series I see that it is drawing almost 2 amps.
So I know I can pull fuses and check to see when the draw stops.
I did that with the fuses and relays in the fuse box right next to the battery.
But going under the dashboard will require getting an assistant or going back and forth.
Before I do that I thought I would ask if these have known common failures that I could check first.

More info

OK, I guessed dome light and that did stop the drain.
When the dome light fuse is in there is a electrical cycling sound under the dash.
According to the manual only the dome light is on that fuse.
With the dome light fuse out the dome light does not work but neither does the car.
Pull that one fuse and you can even turn the key using the key fob in your pocket.
This is crazy.

Well, a 2007, probably made in 2006 ain't no spring chicken anymore. By my reckoning, that's a nine year old car.

I never keep a car that long. Just too many things car deteriorate in that time.

I remember the problem under the hood, where a large cable bundle was rubbing up against the driver-side shock tower. We talked about that at great length on this forum. I fixed that problem by wrapping that cable with foam padding, to keep it from rubbing the shock tower.

On my SX4, the cable was rubbing the paint off of the shock tower.


So I wrapped the cable with foam.


So that solved a potentially dangerous condition.

If leaving that Dome Light fuse out, solves your problem, by all means "Leave it Out".

I edited my post and you may not have seen the update.
With the dome light fuse out the car is dead as a door nail. I have the keyless ignition but with dome light fuse out it won't turn. Put the fuse in and it starts.
By the way this car has less than 36K miles on it so rubbing, chaffing type stuff shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, I thought it unusual that the dome light was the only thing on that fuse.
That's not common.

One thing that I have used in the past, is a battery Quick Disconnect (switch), that is usually located right at the battery. It works well on the Negative side.
It not only prevents the battery from being drained, by things in the car, but it can also prevent car theft.

OK further research using the service manual says the following are on the dome fuse.
1. Audio
2. BCM
3. COMB Meter
4. DLC
5. ECM
6. Interior Light
7. ICM
8. TCM
9. Rear interior light
10. Luggage Compartment Light
11. Main Switch (key switch)
12. Multi information display
13. KLS control module

So now I need someone to tell me the easiest way to disconnect those one at a time from the box they come out of.

Physically locate and unplug each device one-by-one - any other method will require cutting of wires.

I would also suggest that you disconnect the battery before unplugging any of the electronic control modules (BCM, ECM, ICM, TCM, etc.) and reconnect to measure the current draw.

Also - don't spend too much time looking for the DLC - it's an abbreviation for Data Link Connector - and yes, it is powered from the dome light fuse, but that's so that what ever you connect to the DLC will be powered.

How old is the battery? It may just be worn out. If you had a constant 2A drain it wouldn't last 1 week. You will probably find that some control units draw current for a short time after the car is switched off.

If the battery can sit for a week and still start the drain won't be 2A. That would drain a typical car batt in 1 to 2 days. After you put your ammeter in circuit leave it for a while to see if the current drops to a lower value.
