Any reason I would find ball bearings in the oil of my 8V G16 when I drained it?

I can't think of any place inside a G16 that uses ball bearings...

I was thinking the same thing. Thoughts of PCV and brake booster check valve guts and even a wildly destroyed water pump shaft assembly should it share a lubricating oil passageway.

Shrapnel of this type will (I think) always be a mystery as to origin.

Who knows for sure. An as-built engine assembly room mishap may account for this since dormant sitting foreign object.

Or we have a saboteur!

0.186 mm? thats tiny. Those aren't ball bearings at that size, at least from nothing fitted to the engine that I can think of.
You are saying theres small round shiny bits in the oil when you drained it, are they actually ball bearings? or metallic particles that look like ball bearings? can you post a pic please.

Unless I'm mistaken....

0.186 millimeter ='s 0.00732 inch

Less than the thickness of a sheet of heavy paper.

Something in your reporting is amiss.
