DAMN! just bought this Sammy and find out it needs a smog check. It smells like gas when running as it is. The previous owner told me he replaced the carb just before the sale. how bad could it be? and do you know a good reasonable mechanic that wont give me the big oneup my :excl: in Murrieta/Temecula area of southern california.

I hate this part, just feels like i'm going to get it for sure:crying:

Section 24007 (b)(2) of the Vehicle Code states it is the responsibility of the seller to provide a valid smog certificate at the time of delivery of the vehicle. There is no provision in the law to sell a vehicle "as is."
I believe that a smog certificate is valid for 30 days from the date of the test. also this came up in my search:

Go back to the seller, inform them about Vehicle Code section 24007 (b)(2), and try to work things out amicably. If that fails, you have the option to pay for the repairs and the Smog Check yourself, and then take the seller to Small Claims Court to recover your costs. Although the law clearly supports the buyer, collecting on a small claims judgment can be difficult, so the amicable solution is usually best. If the seller is a state-licensed auto dealer, buyers have the additional option of filing a complaint with the DMV, which regulates new- and used-car dealers
If the vehicle was registered as non operational and is sold as a non operational vehicle, then the seller is not required to smog it and it is the buyers responsibility to smog it if they wish to reinstate the vehicle as operational.

Smelling gasoline in your exhaust is a sign of running too lean. If you smell gas, make sure all of your vacuum lines are hooked up correctly (its a veritable rats nest and you need to follow the pictures and diagrams closely to hook it up right) and it wouldn't hurt to replace the 02 sensor.

Let us know how it goes, cuz I also sometimes smell gas while the car is running, and it doesn't seem to be from the Exaust, it seems to be from the carb.

Also, some times when I turn the car off, the engine continues to bumble and rumble several times then gives a strange "Tsssssss" sound, then a funny smell, that is neither a gas smell nor an exaust smell, I can't work out what is it, comes out of the carb. Otherwise, the engine runs brilliantly.
