Dear all,

I've been visiting this forum for a couple of months as it provides a good resource. Well don to the administrators and to all that help in answering questions and providing useful information.

I've been the owner of a 1998 Suzuki Jimny for the past year and I try to do all servicing work and repairs on it myself as I enjoy getting my hands dirty ;)

I've come across a problem which till now haven't managed to solve. My ABS warning light remains on continuously and thus I have no ABS functioning. I went through some literature on its workshop manual and managed to read error codes from the 4 pin adapter located behind the glove box but since I have no errors in the engine management system, the CEL blinked 1 2 showing I have no faults in that area. I got in touch with a friend of mine that has a couple of diagnostic readers (since its his profession) but when he plugged his equipment in the Dignositc socket under the steering (driver side is on the right) he couldn't get through to ABS as if the the car never had an ABS system. This confirmed my findings earlier on, on AUTODATA software since my car was not listed as having ABS, as the ABS option on the software was greyed off (not available).

I would like some help as to whether there is a seperate diagnostic plug to get into the ABS system and whether it is possible to read codes off the ABS warning light through the blinking procedure and bridging of wire connectors as is with the CEL. I would be grateful if anyone ever encountered such a problem and how they fixed it. Does this fault result only from wheel sensors? I intend to service each wheel and brakes soon too but would the ABS malfunction is top priority to fix. Thanks for your help.

My car is a 1998 Jimny first sold in Japan, 13BB engine SOHC 16V, 5speed manual and with 4WD transfer box.

Regards,
Cliff

Thanks for the PDF. Is the diagnostic monitor mentioned in 5E-11 the same one that you use to read of CEL codes? That is, is it the same one located behind the glove box as that I'm not sure about? If not where is it located and by any chance you don't know the exact wire color codes to short to read off ABS codes? I had come across a writeup somewhere on the net mentioning a pink wire (which I recall it was present in the diagnostic coupler behing the glove box). Thanks once again for your help and prompt reply.

Ok so from 5E-14, I've determined that the wires to short on the diagnostic plug are ground (black) and the Diagnosis Switch Terminal (A12 -Pink/Black). I hope I'm correct. If I'm right the only missing part of the puzzle is where is the diagnostic connected located and whether is the same connector I used to read out Check Engine Light codes. I believe there was no pink/black wire on the diagnostic connector behind the glove box, only a pink/white wire.

Thanks again,
Cliff
