Hi,

Just fitted my Old Man Emu suspension kit to my 2003 Jimny. Have also purchased some new 7 x 15 alloys too.

Question... what A/T tyre can I fit/works best with the OME +40mm lift?

"Best" is hard to say, without knowing all your needs/wants/desires, but the 235/75R15 BFG TA/KO (about 29") would be a good starting point (if you're looking for a wider & taller tire). It will fit, is not too wide and will perform well both on and off the road. It's my next tire, when my 215's age out (they'll never wear out). 215's (almost 28") fit nicely on 7" rims as well, and don't noticeably affect your gearing.

according to testing done by a reputable 4wd magazine here in aus, the bfg M/T is actually quieter on road than the A/T... heck, it was quieter than the other 3 muddies they tested in this report, and quieter than the 3 other A/Ts tested... guess it comes down to what you want/expect from your tires...

just something to think about...

Best depends on what you plan to do. If you're driving on sand then an A/T performs better than an M/T. if its mainly road use then keeping to a smaller size tyre like a 215/75 keeps the gearing reasonable.

Thanks guys for your suggestions.

My Jimny is a 2003 Auto which I think has even lower gearing than a manual??

I want the car for a daily driver to and from work and use it at the weeknds for green laning here in the UK.

Was looking at the Cooper Discoverer ST tyre which is 60/40 off/on road tyre and the smallest it comes in a 235/75/15 which will fit my 7x15 wheels.

Will I get this under the Jimny arches without cutting modding?

Will the gearing be affected that much on my Auto?

Will the 235 cause tramlining on a Jimny ? I dont want it to be a pig to drive.

i dont know about the newer jimny's, but i do know that the 235/75 is a common compromise between having a larger tire without affecting gearing too much in sierra's and older vitaras too i think. i would imagine it wouldnt affect gearing a whole lot, shouldnt make it any harder to drive (maybe slighly stiffer steering, but not by much).

i would say the 235 would be perfect for a daily drive/weekend toy. and they fit under stock sierra's, and i THINK it should under a stock jimny without doing anything... maybe someone else can answer that one better...

Steering will be OK, slightly stiffer but I don't think thats a bad thing. I ran a manual Jimny on 215R15s and the difference in gearing was quite noticable, I can't say how the auto will behave, as well as the reduction in torque, the change up points will obviously be higher than normal.
The Jimny doesn't have as much room in the arches as the old SJ.
